What to know
-
First Appointment
The first appointment (called an intake appointment) can be scheduled during the day, evening, or weekend hours. It will be 45 minutes long and will be a time for you to ask your counselor questions and your counselor to get to know you and your goals for therapy. At the end of the appointment, you and your counselor will discuss a schedule for ongoing counseling sessions.
-
For Children
We meet with parents before we meet with kids. The intake session begins the assessment process for providing treatment for children. Typically, counseling for a minor starts with this schedule:
Parent Intake (parents only, no child)
Parent and Child Session with Therapist
1-3 Sessions with Child and Therapist
Parent Feedback / Treatment Planning Session
During the intake session, parents will talk through the specific assessment schedule for their child, based on the needs of the family. The frequency of treatment, specific goals for counseling, and specific family involvement will be discussed during the treatment planning session.
-
For Adults
During your first session, you will establish a trusting relationship with your counselor, explore the history of your struggle, and create goals that will guide your journey. It is important to have a good personality fit, meaning you can feel safe and vulnerable with your counselor. For couple's therapy, the first session is with the couple together, followed by two individual sessions, one with each. If you have questions please give us a call.
Our Goal
We want to help you and your family be the best versions of yourselves. We do not aim to change who you are or what you believe. We meet you where you are, follow the goals you create, and assist you to reach those goals within a healthy, safe counseling relationship.
